Faux Terrarium in a Yankee Candle Jar

I'm so excited...I found another use for my empty Yankee Candle jars!  Nothing like a pretty FREE glass jar...and some dollar store supplies.

I am working on spring-ifying (yup, so went there) our house and this little guy was among my first projects.  I am calling it a faux terrarium because I don't know what else to call it and basically because 'paper flower with moss in a dollar store mini clay pot in a glass jar' is too long.

I am new to terrariums, but I'm liking them.  If you're not familiar, according to Dictionary.com a terrarium is "a glass container, chiefly or wholly enclosed, for growing and displaying plants." In other words I think I'm justified in calling this a faux terrarium.  No?

Okay onwards my friends.  I started by putting some filler (aka balled up tissues) in the bottom of my mini pots.  These mini terracotta pots come in a three pack at Dollar Tree. Can't beat .33 a piece!

Then I put a layer of moss to cover the tissue.  The moss also comes in a bag and can be found at the dollar store.   I sprayed the moss with some spray adhesive so it would stay in place and so I could stick the paper flower that I made on.

I cut my flower using my Silhouette (3D paper flower tutorial here), but if you don't have a Silhouette you could use a fake flower or cut out a paper one by hand.

I feel like the little spring banner helps brings the whole thing together.  It's actually a chalkboard banner...you've seen them before on 2IY.  I've used them on my boxwood birdcage and also my chalkboard sign.  I wrote on the flag with a chalkboard marker and then tied it with some bakers twine around the pot.

Once it was all put together, I ever so gently lowered the whole pot into my Yankee Candle jar.  This is actually the most difficult part. I didn't want moss falling out and getting all over the bottom of the jar which is kinda tough.

I have my faux terrarium sitting on the pallet shelf in my bathroom. Spring is everywhere in my house...clearly.

Thanks for stopping by 2IY! If you like what you see, we'd love for you to pin it!
