A few weeks back when my kids actually had a day of school (gasp) rather than a(nother) snow day I actually made it to the thrift store! Woo hoo...it was a very successful trip. Perhaps you remember me sharing these three identical large vintage glass jars that I turned into canisters? Well along with them, I also scored this mini wood picnic table. Here's something similar on eBay for $75. WHAT in the hickety hack (my kids love it when I say that) is going on with that!?
Anyway, mine set me back five whole dollars... which is nothing to say 'hickety hack' about in my humble opinion. I immediately knew I was going to give the picnic table to my daughter for Valentine's Day...but not in the state it was in. I needed to 'girl' it up a bit and of course that meant PINK!
I gave her two coats of pink spray paint and then used some white craft paint to add the polka dots. I just used my round foam pouncers to add the circles.
Trying to control and organize the growing American Girl wardrobe my daughter is collecting is more work than organizing her own clothes. For Christmas she got a doll dresser, but with just a few hangers all the clothes were ending up balled up on top of it, instead of hung neatly inside which was my vision. Yeah right....insert reality check here! At least I tried...I decided, instead of continuing to buy packs of hangers that I knew would eventually get lost and/or broken, I would make some.

A few days ago I shared my version of a DIY American Girl Gymnastics Bars. Now, I'm back with the balance beam to complete the gymnastics set - and it's even easier! All you need are two square dowels (I found them at the craft store) and wood glue. Spray paint is optional - I had it on hand and I figured I'd match the bar and beam, so I used it on the supports.
So what to do when one of the only gift your 5 year old American Girl Doll-loving girl keeps telling Santa is a $200+ gymnastics set? Nevermind the fact that I could send my real live living breathing daughter to actual real live gymnastic lessons for that amount...but now she wants her doll to have a set of uneven bars and a beam, too. Are you kidding me?
There was no way I was going to spend that amount of money on something for a doll. Sorry. Not gonna happen. But, there was also no way I wanted my precious baby girl to be disappointed on Christmas morning and so I set out to make a DIY American Girl gymnastics set.
Ever since my daughter got her American Girl Doll she's been begging for all the accessories. I made Miss Rebecca a DIY doll bed and even some matching bedding, but with Halloween around the corner, my daughter has been asking for a few outfits.
For one, she wants them to have matching Halloween costumes. Fortunately, my daughter wants to wear the witch costume my mom made me when I was her age - so put a big ol' check next to that because I don't have to do anything but show up with some green face paint. Since I figured my mom did all the work on that one, I agreed to make her American Doll a matching witch costume.
